Isle of Wight Festival, UK

Despite only running for three years, the original Isle of Wight Festival will forever be etched in musical history after it played host to Jimi Hendrix's last ever performance. Attracting crowds of over 600,000, the festival was so popular a law was passed to prevent it ever taking place again. But in 2002 it was re-born, with big names from today like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kings Of Leon and Calvin Harris honouring the spirits of their legendary predecessors.

Sonus Festival, Croatia

Taking over Zrce Beach on the beautiful island of Pag in Croatia, Sonus is one of the largest underground techno festivals in Europe. Lose yourself in a heady mix of sun, sand and blissful sounds as you dance in the world famous clubs and bars, or on board one of the sell-out boat parties.

Mandrea music festival, Italy

If your tastes are a bit more off-beat, this could be just the answer. Nestling on Lake Garda, in the foothills of the Italian Alps, Mandrea offers an ecelctic mix of reggae, folk and hip-hop from around the world. Bestival, UK

Bestival is an award winning, four day boutique music festival set at Robin Hill, a leafy country park estate in the heart of the Isle of Wight. The wonderful world of Bestival was born out of ten fun years of pioneering music events and record releases from Rob da Bank's Sunday Best empire. The BBC Radio 1 leftfield DJ had a dream to one day create his vision of how the modern day festival should be. Along with Creative Director and wife Josie da Bank, and co-founders John and Ziggy from Get Involved, that dream is now fulfilled.
