Planning a corporate event in Glasgow

15th February 2018

Continuing our mini-series looking at cities around the UK to see what they have to offer for corporate events, we head north of the border to Glasgow.

Scotland's biggest city is a thriving cultural hub with a cosmopolitan feel, a buzzing nightlife scene and just the right amount of edge. Along with its range of top restaurants, venues and activities, this makes Glasgow a perfect location for a meeting or event.

We recently ran an event day in Glasgow for a top telecommunications company. Take a look at our suggestions for a corporate event in this lively city.

If you're looking to arrange a meeting or conference in Glasgow, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a venue. There's plenty of hotels with rooms to hire, as well as a choice of museums with function rooms. Some of our favourite venues though, are those which are a little more unusual.

The Old Fruitmarket exudes character with its iron columns and high-vaulted ceilings. This versatile venue in the Merchant City area is perfect for a larger scale event such as a product launch.

The Tall Ship at Riverside is a distinctive venue full of 19th-century charm. It makes a remarkable venue for a dinner. The Blythswood Square Hotel meanwhile, boasts a 40-seat cinema, perfect for private screenings or presentations.

Glasgow has an abundance of activities to choose from if you're looking to put on an action-packed event day. Our group enjoyed an afternoon of go-karting followed by a 'Call of Duty' style laser game. These were two activities the competitive sales team really loved.

You can also find escape rooms and indoor skiing on offer in the city, while a short drive outside of Glasgow opens up a range of country pursuits. Here you can plan a day of clay pigeon shooting, tank driving and even duck herding. Glasgow also offers easy access to nearby Lake Lomond, where you can try sailing, windsurfing or stand-up paddleboarding.

Glasgow's dining scene is one of the best in the UK. You'll find a multitude of cuisines and restaurant styles in the city. Our group enjoyed dinner at Teller's Brasserie at The Corinthian Club. This stylish venue serves excellent locally-sourced produce and has a lively atmosphere which was perfect for our young group. The venue was also ideal for guests who wanted to continue their night after dinner. The Corinthian has a gorgeous cocktail piano bar, as well as an on-site casino which the group made good use of.

Some of our other choices for Glasgow dining include Number 16, which offers Scottish cooking with a modern twist, 111 by Nico, where the beautifully presented dishes taste as good as they look, and The Spanish Butcher, which serves some of the best and most sought over meats outside of Spain.

After dinner, continue your night at one of Glasgow's stylish bars. Brel's magical garden is perfect for a summer evening, hipster Hillhead Bookclub serves quirky cocktails, and beGin offers nearly 70 varieties of gin, making it the place for G&T connoisseurs.

The city is home to a huge choice of hotels. You'll find all the usual chain options if you're searching for a familiar favourite. There's also a selection of great five star properties if you're looking for luxury.

We would recommend trying one of the city's more boutique-style hotels though. Our group loved the ABode Glasgow. This comfortable yet contemporary hotel was perfect for their one night stay.

Other options we'd recommend include citizenM, a super stylish hotel with a futuristic feel to its decor, and Village Hotel, a Scandi-chic property packed with on-site facilities.
