Planning a corporate event in Manchester

8th February 2018

When you're planning an event it's often hard to know the best venues to use, team activities to include and places to eat or stay. Especially if the location is somewhere you're not familiar with. In a new mini-series we take a look at different cities around the UK to see what they have to offer for corporate events and first up is Manchester.

Over recent years, vast investment has transformed Manchester into a dynamic player in the events industry. It's a city with a unique energy, where new venues, restaurants and bars are finding their homes.

Take a look at our suggestions to find out why Manchester could be the perfect destination for your next meeting, conference or event.

Manchester has a huge selection of great venue options to choose from. Rather than talk about the city's standard conference centres' offerings though, let's take a look at some more unique venues. For a touch of class and tradition, Chetham's Library and College House is the perfect choice for a small group. Set in the oldest public library in the English-speaking world, this is a truly atmospheric location. For larger groups, the Manchester Cathedral is an impressive choice. This medieval location is a breathtaking space suitable for up to 1,000 guests.

For a more modern feel, we recommend the IWM North. The real draw of this location is that you can create your own digital wallpaper for the venue's walls. It's a really effective way to give your event a unique branding or backdrop. Victoria Warehouse is also a good choice. This industrial-style building offers a completely blank canvas for large scale events or product launches.

Activities in Manchester

Challenge 4 Change

Manchester's Chill Factore is a great choice for fun activities. It's home to the UK's longest indoor skiing and snowboarding slope. The venue can be hired for team building activities, skiing or boarding lessons, or free time to enjoy the slopes. Chill Factore also has on-site conference and meeting rooms, making it ideal if you're looking for a venue that combines work and play.

Another venue which offers great team building activity options is Challenge 4 Change. The venue offers tailor-made programmes which combine physical indoor assault course training with stimulating mental challenges. The programmes can be demanding but they're a really fun way to bring a group together.

There's also a huge number of other activities to choose from in the city, with everything from cocktail making to indoor trampolining available.

Manchester has so many dining options it's difficult to narrow it down to our favourites. One of our top choices is popular London-based Hawksmoor, which has recently opened a branch in Manchester. Their award-winning steaks are famous for a reason. Another great option for meat lovers is Fazenda, which offers a relaxed rodizio dining experience. It's perfect for a more casual dinner but also offers private dining rooms for something more intimate.

For a more alternative choice, try Tattu. Serving contemporary Chinese cuisine, Tattu is opulently decorated in a traditional Asian style. The venue is truly stunning and the food is just as good, if not better.

To finish off your night, Manchester has a mix of sophisticated bars and cool clubs to choose from. One of our favourite places for an after dinner drink is Cloud 23. This is the highest bar in Manchester, offering panoramic views and an innovative drinks menu. It does fantastic cocktail masterclasses too.

For clubs, some of the best are the tiki-style Liars Club, which has one of the latest closing times in the city, and Revolucion de Cuba, which has live music every night. Club LIV is also a good choice, it's one of the chicest spots in the city.

Hotels in Manchester

Two really stylish Manchester accommodation options are Great John Street Hotel and King Street Townhouse. Both are part of the Eclectic Hotels group. The rooms at both hotels are contemporary with an opulent, classic twist. Great John Street has a gorgeous rooftop bar perfect for pre-dinner drinks, while King Street Townhouse has an incredible infinity spa pool overlooking the spires of the town hall.

We'd also recommend The Principal, which offers classic rooms in a striking Grade II listed property. Or for something a bit different Hotel Gotham is worth considering. It's a very decadent five-star property with extravagant room decor. It may not be to every group's taste but it's a very interesting option.
